International importance:

It is included in the Red List of Belarus 2 editions (1993). Is under the state protection in Lithuania and Latvia.

Description:
Mainly biannual grassy plant 170-220 cm high with an upright branchy stalk. Leaves are simple, on long scapes, rounded ovoid, or ovoid, with the heart-shaped or vyemchaty basis, lower larger, 50 cm long. Flowers tubular, purple, small, form basket inflorescences. Baskets with a diameter of 3,5-4 cm, on short legs or sedentary, are collected in the general clustery inflorescence. Leaflets of a wrapper of baskets usually naked. A fruit - a semyanka, 7-8 mm long.

Rasprostraniyeniye:
Scandinavia, Atlantic, Central and Eastern Europe, Caucasus. In Belarus is in island habitats behind northeast border of continuous distribution. Locations in Pruzhansky district of the Brest Region, the Vitebsk district of the Vitebsk Region, the Grodno and Svislochsky districts of the Grodno Region and Mstislavsky district Mogilev regional are known.

Habitats:
Edges and glades of the broad-leaved and coniferous and broad-leaved woods (lime, maple, fir-tree and oak, ashen chernoolkhovykh, etc.), usually grows on slopes of river terraces on fertile soils.

Biology:
Blossoms in July - August. Entomofil. Seeds ripen in August - September. Zoochorus (epizookhor). Breeds only seeds.

Number and tendency of its change:
In the known locations grows small groups (to ten individuals) and single copies.

Major factors of threat:
Anthropogenous - economic transformation of lands (the cabin of the wood of the main use, destruction of a ground cover, a grass burning out, excessive recreational loadings); natural - hybridization with sinantropny types of a sort, replacement by more competitive types (owing to strong shading).

Protection measures:
Grows in territories of National park "Bialowieza Forest", and also the biological wildlife area "Sopotskinsky" (The Grodno district) and the botanical wildlife area "Devil's beard" (The Vitebsk district). It is cultivated in the Central botanical garden NAN of Belarus. Control of a condition of the known populations, artificial cultivation and moving in suitable ecotops, search of new locations and, if necessary, the organization of their protection, audit of location in Mstislavsky district are necessary prohibition of economic activity in places of growth (except selective sanitary and cabins of leaving in winter time).
