Recently received the letter from Elsk of the Gomel region from Tatyana and Lyudmila whose father Mikhail Mitrofanovich Pantsevich was directly involved in liberation of Brest from fascist aggressors.

- We know, they write that you keep in the most close connection with the Brest regional newspaper "Zarya". In due time your articles, documentary stories "In Fights for Kobrin and Brest", "What Makes Related Me with the City over Bug", "As the Brest Earth Is Expensive to Us" and others were published. We store them as the most valuable relics, often we address them. On a foreground they are presented in the parental house. And annually, celebrating the Day of liberation of Brest - on July 28, we read the documentary story "In Fights for Kobrin and Brest" where it is told about native, former veterans, friends on the weapon.

In brief I will tell about the legendary soldier Mikhail Mitrofanovich Pantsevich. Before war did military service, ended courses of commanders. When Patriotic war began, was already a commander of a company, took part in combat operations. He, the officer Pantsevich, with fights passed all war, more than once got into cruel troubles, but the destiny preserved it. Not to forget that day, the brave soldier when it with group of submachine gunners in number of 120 people the first rushed on the southwest suburb of Minsk remembered and struck a crushing blow on the German monsters trying to destroy high-rise buildings of the city: The government house, the Central Committee House, the multi-storey building down the street B. Khmelnytsky where all republican newspapers prepared for the edition. In hand-to-hand fight 25 fascists were destroyed. For the shown courage and heroism M. M. Pantsevich was awarded the order the Red Banner, and all submachine gunners - awards of the Red Star. In one of fights near Kalinkovichami the enemy bullet got into a forearm. Doctors could not get it as it was very close from an artery, and with it Pantsevich M. M. passed all war.

− In the war our father not only saw a grief and sufferings of civilians, - write Pantsevich's daughter, - but also found the happiness. The nurse Verochka, working in Kalinkovichakh in the evakogospital, got acquainted with the father and became his faithful companion and the companion for the rest of life.

The Russian girl from the city of Pravdinsk of Gorky area, now - Nizhny Novgorod, found the second homeland in Belarus, in Elsk. Here Vera Fiodorovna Pantsevich, a maiden name of Ariskin, gave birth to four children, waited for grandsons and great-grandsons.

And now about fights on the Brest region. Having seized a railway junction and the city of Lunints, the Soviet troops headed for Kobrin. Investigation reported that approaches to the city, the main roads are densely mined. After a small respite in villages Vulka-_ and Vulka-ІІ sappers were transferred on mine clearing of roads. Separate machines continually were blown up on enemy mines.

And nevertheless fascists did not sustain an impact of our troops. After heavy fighting Kobrin was released! On a central square of the city the red flag was hung out. People took to the streets, celebrated a victory of our armed forces, exulted.

The opponent still resisted, seeking to return the lost positions, but he did not manage it. Overcoming the persistent resistance of the enemy, our troops managed to close a ring around Brest turned by fascists into the strong strengthened defense center. Coming also sustained big losses. Heavy fighting continued five days. And only on the night of July 28 the 70th, 61st and 28th army of the 1st Belarusian front storm took the city and fortress, from July 18 to August 2, 1944 our military units performed the Lublin and Brest offensive operation which was part of operation on liberation of Belarus code-named "Bagration". As a result of the carried-out approach the Soviet troops left to the suburb of Warsaw and occupied the important base on the west bank of Vistula. Release of the southwest areas of Belarus and east regions of Poland was as a result complete.

In fight for Brest and in the subsequent fights among others the 212th Krichevsky shooting division as a part of which the lieutenant colonel Mikhail Mitrofanovich Pantsevich, the native of Elsk who served from the commander of a company to the commander of a regiment was at war most caused a stir. His breast was decorated by two awards of the Red Banner, an award of the Red Star, four awards of Patriotic war, and also war decorations of Army Polish. And daughters of the brave soldier Tatyana and Lyudmila are proud that their father participated in battle on liberation of Warsaw and even received a personal congratulation from the marshal Rokossovsky. They are proud also of the fact that their beloved mother Vera Fiodorovna Pantsevich (Ariskina), being a nurse of hospital, together with others took out from a battlefield of wounded soldiers and officers. And it by right is awarded high government awards.

And rather recently on my name the message from Elsky regional executive committee of the following contents arrived: "On your appeal to Administration of the President of Republic of Belarus we report: Pantsevich M. M. in the years of war proved as the real patriot of the Homeland. For courage and heroism he was awarded by six awards and many fighting medals. Its way from the private to the commander of a regiment is an example for residents of Yelets:

For perpetuating of memory of Pantsevich M. M. the tree on the avenue of participants of the Great Patriotic War in Elsk will be planted. Also it is planned СШ№ 1 to appropriate to one of pioneer groups of Elskaya a name of the lieutenant colonel Pantsevich M. M. with opening of a corner with materials about its course of life. On condition of transfer of its personal belongings, prize books, awards, memoirs of relatives the museum of local lore of Elsk will open a special show-window about it".
