On July 20, 1944 troops of the First Belarusian front during the Lublin-Brest operation released Mr. Kobrin. This day became memorable for inhabitants of Kobrin district. Here is how it was.

July 19, 1944

During offensive combats of Red Army guerrilla groups of Orlov, Pustovalov and Chapayev before approach of our parts cut off the dirt road going from. Borsches on of Kozishche, also held her, without giving the chance to the opponent to withdraw the troops and a wagon train. Guerrilla conductors helped regular parts to overcome off road terrain and marshy places, brought them to flanks of the opponent, than promoted an environment and destruction of groups of Germans.

In the evening on July 19 parts of the 61st army under sending of the general P. A. Belov approached Kobrin. Powerful art fire processed a first line of defense of the opponent from east and southern sides of the city. The main blow was struck to the city in the night of July 20 by the 37th Guards regiment. At the left and on the right he was supported by the 32nd and 39th shooting and the 29th artillery regiments. Connections of the 9th Guards shooting case of the 61st army took part in Kobrin's release: the 12th Pinsky Guards and 212th Krichevskaya shooting divisions with assistance of the 271st night bombing aviation division of the 16th air army.

On July 20 the Soviet soldiers lifted a red banner over Kobrin. Many military units, soldiers and commanders became famous in fights for our city. So, to 12 parts of the First Belarusian front which battled to the country the honorary title of "Kobrin" was given. Also many soldiers and officers were awarded war decorations. During fights for Kobrin the Hero of the Soviet Union pilot A.I. Morozov died. Now the square in the downtown is called by his name.
