Thanks to the grandfather for the Victory

On the eve of a great holiday I want to pay a tribute to the memory and respect of my grandfather Ivan Yakovlevich Logvinovich. The grandfather was born in 1923 in Divin, was a participant and the disabled person of the Great Patriotic War. Unfortunately, he died in 2002, and any not clear moments in its biography cannot already be specified. The grandfather, as well as many veterans, reluctantly told about those hard times. From his words I only knew that he was at war short time somewhere in the north that served in investigation and in 1942 was seriously injured therefore I became a disabled person. From children's memoirs of my mother Olga Ivanovna Trushnikova it is known that it for performance of a fighting task together with the friend went to the back of the enemy behind "language". The friend was blown up on a mine and died in the face of the grandfather. Splinters of the same mine to the grandfather tore off a brush of the left hand and a thumb right then he was long treated in hospital in Leninogorsk (Kazakhstan). Mother remembers also that he was awarded by awards and medals. Here, perhaps, and all information which my family had until recently.

Quite recently on the website "Feat of the People" we found the copy of the prize leaf dated on July 16, 1946. In a prize leaf it is specified that I.Ya. Logvinovich was called in March, 1942 by the Medvezhyegorsky military registration and enlistment office Karelian-Finnish the Soviet Socialist Republic. Was at war as a part of the 24th shooting regiment, the 10th shooting division on the Northern front. On August 23, 1942 in fight for the hill located in 70 km to the northwest of Murmansk got wound of both hands. Earlier it was awarded by the medal "For a Victory over Germany". For active participation on fronts of the Great Patriotic War and the got severe wound it was awarded the order Patriotic War to 2 degrees. Besides, according to mother, in 1985 to the 40 anniversary of the Victory he was awarded also by an award of Patriotic War of 1 degree.

Only having read this prize leaf, I understood that literally in 2 months prior to wound to my grandfather 19 years were executed. Absolutely boy! To the shame, I never thought of it. My younger daughter is one year more senior than it, actually then glanced in death eyes now. After wound the grandfather lived almost 60 years, grew up together with the grandmother of four children. As could, with the disability which is available for it, brought benefit to the family and society: worked at Kobrin cannery and the inspector in "Okhotrybnadzor".

It became interesting to me what situation was on the Northern front during this period when there my grandfather was at war. I will dare to give historical information.

"Hitler attached importance to capture of Murmansk for a number of reasons. First, it was the nonfreezing port in the north of Europe connected by the railroad with Leningrad; secondly, Murmansk held important strategic position: near it there were bases for navy and from here the Northern Sea Route began; thirdly, Murmansk was the center of the rich land with large-scale fishing, forest, ship-repair, mining and chemical, copper-nickel and power industry. Most of all from natural riches of fascists interested nickel without which it was impossible to melt high-strength steel. On June 22, 1941 the German planes dropped the first bombs on Murmansk. Murmansk, after Stalingrad, possesses a sad record of war by amount of the explosive dumped on 1 square meter of an urban area. From 2830 buildings which are available in the city only 990 escaped.

But in 1941 fascists encountered on approaches to Murmansk persistent resistance. Bloody fights went for each hill, for each valley, convenient for pass, literally for each meter of the road. In 1942 became undoubted that the overland line of the Karelian front on a seaside wing was finally stabilized and the opponent has nothing to hope for capture of Murmansk and Kola Bay".

Whether with my grandfather took part in these fights whether he got wound not there or after all they with the companion were undermined on an enemy mine? How he managed to survive who rescued it then, gave first aid? Unfortunately to ask these questions there is nobody. How already, probably, not to learn about whether the grandfather served in the 24th reconnaissance company of the 10th shooting division about which it is specified in many sources, as about the fighting connection which was a part of this division, or after all in the 24th regiment which it is mentioned in a prize leaf. It is sick because that so far the grandfather was living, we were not interested adequately his fighting past.

With interest watched movies about war, read books about it, and it was necessary to give more time to the living eyewitness and the active participant of those unforgettable events. Imperishable memory to the heroes who were killed in battles of that terrible war, died of the got wounds. Thanks to those boys that stood then was preserved by our future and the future of our children.
