"And Czechs met us by white loaf"    

Grigorchuk Stepan Nikolaevich was born in of Stoyla of Pruzhansky district on June 14, 1924. On the front it was called in the 1944th. The ordinary infantryman participated in liberation of Poznan, Prague, Berlin. After demobilization was engaged in mine clearing of fields on Gomelytsin - in Zhlobinsky district. Worked in protection of military bases, including in Kobrin district. Retired, having more than 20 years' experience of the security guard behind shoulders. Lives in of Tevli of Kobrin district. It is awarded by the medals "For Courage" and "For Capture of Berlin".

"Our 221st shooting regiment which received later the name "Berlin" entered Prague almost without loss … Surprisingly even: so much time sank since then, and not only episodes, but also surnames of brother-soldiers are remembered. Our company Sanin very much worried that on approaches to Prague several people from our company died. I remember, on the way to the city saw two of our padded tanks, and near one of them the torn-off leg lay...

And around spring, there was no wish to think of anything bad. Was young absolutely, twenty years! Most of all was engraved in the memory as Czechs met us. With white loaf! And, appear, from all directions shouted: we will give everything to you, we will give much!

It means, for release, that Germans were banished. We at the front per day were given out on half-rolls of bread and bank of the American canned food. This ration was enough, but white loaf which was stretched to us by residents of Prague was remembered well. I never tasted then such tasty bread...".
