The division that subsequently began to be called Brest Decorated with the Order of the Red Banner, was created at the beginning of war from volunteers Muscovites. But along roads of war in its structure there were soldiers from the different republics and areas.

The native of Kobrin district Vladimir Chmel got to it even before release of native places. He was a guerrilla of group of a name Kotovsk that was based around Svaryni. In March of the 1944th cruel fights with Germans were expected, and the management of group decided to transport for a front line, for the river Pripyat, women and children from family camp. Specially picked up group of maintenance and protection included also Chmel. Were transported successfully. Warned in advance, military accepted children and women under the guardianship, and yesterday's guerrillas became fighters. Vladimir Chmel was defined in the 222nd reserve regiment and soon got to structure of this well-known division, to be exact, in a separate antiaircraft and machine-gun company at a staff of a division which main objective was a protection of a staff from land and air attack. Can seem to the profane person in military subtleties that service at a staff easy. In a peace time - can be. In war such object - very much a titbit for the opponent...

Except protection of a staff, the separate antiaircraft and machine-gun company at storm of the cities together with all beat the air and land targets. Once in the spring of the 1945th to Vladimir Chmel the task was set: to urgently deliver the report in a division staff. Only was adjusted to cross asphalt, and suddenly - an explosion roar. Regained consciousness in complete darkness. Moved hands, legs. It seems, are whole. Thought: "Here and are missing". Could be chosen from under a blockage, perform a task and continue a way to the Victory. Participated in release of the Polish cities, storm of sea base near Danzig for what in addition to the medal "For Liberation of Warsaw" got the medal "For Courage".

At the beginning of May, 1945 the division was far beyond Oder, near the city of Varin. At night the scout plane arrived. Pilots reported: "Ours storm the Reichstag". And by the end of day on May 8 learned about capitulation...

Mai - especially joyful time for the veteran. And not only because of day of the Great Victory. This month birthday of Vladimir Martynovich. And at the daughter-in-law, the grandson and the great-grandson... And people dear to it gather every year in a cozy lodge in the village Oniskovichi together to celebrate birthdays and the main holiday of millions of people.
