Nineteen-year-old Nikolay Dmitruk joined ranks of the Soviet troops which exempted Kobrin district from fascist aggressors. Before getting on the front, it was necessary to have military training in a spare regiment. Studied diligent, mastered not only small arms, but also engineer business, fight tactics. Commanders-mentors imparted the fighting experience, and recruits quickly learned the invaluable lessons. Understood that in front conditions experience and sharpness are vital.

These qualities very much were useful to Nikolay Dmitruk during battles with the artful opponent in East Prussia. Fascists resisted fiercely, conducted battles on well strengthened positions, from shelters snipers beat. Courageously the private Nikolay Dmitruk acted in any situation. Under bullets in vain did not climb, but to descent did not give to the enemy. Provoked snipers to a shot then it was possible most to open fire on defeat.

Determination, courage, ingenuity helped the young fighter with extreme situations. The death faced to it more than once, but the destiny stored the soldier. In one of fights in the opponent's trenches Nikolay Dmitruk was wounded in a hand. Three months was on treatment in hospital, here and celebrated the Victory. General triumph on this occasion reflected internal state of people.

The Great Patriotic War ended with a victory of peaceful forces, but the service in army for Nikolay Dmitruk proceeded three more years. Having said goodbye to the mother infantry, became the cool gunner.

Capable to any business, the hardworking, passed front training person there was a worthy place in the family Hidrakh. Nikolay Dmitruk differed at any work, was a Stakhanovite as the smith, the worker on a torfozagotovka, the foreman of field crew. For military and labor valor Nikolay Grigoryevich is marked out by the state awards, administration of local economy. The veteran willingly remembers and tells about endured, does not lose optimism. And in old age the strength of mind of this interesting, strong person is shown.
