[The report A.P.Tormasova [1] of August 22 (on September 3), 1812].
The general from the Cavalry Tormasov, from 22 past Augustus from camp at the city of Lutsk, informs ITS IMPERIAL MAJESTY of the following:

August 17 with troops to me entrusted I arrived safely to the city of Lutsk. Throughout my march to the city of Kovl places were occupied with our groups: Ratno, Vyzhva, Matseiov, Lyuboml and Turisk, both for an obespechivaniye of my movement, and for supervision over the direction of forces enemy; soon on arrival we wash to Kovl, the enemy in big forces on the left my flank in the town of Shatska appeared, attacked the post which was in Lyubomla. I immediately ordered to the vanguard commander General Aide-de-camp Graff Lambert [2] to rekognostsirovat the enemy, and awaking will find him in dimensional to itself forces, to attack and occupy the town of Lyuboml; in an opposite case, without subjecting people to vain loss, with the enemy not to enter business, but to have it in supervision. At this rekognostsirovaniye of the horse-Tatar ulansky regiment Colonel Knorring [3] with one hunters of the regiment entrusted to it and with the Cossack Vlasov's part 2[4] regiments were broken by the enemy advanced post, from infantry and a cavalry consisting and took prisoner up to 50 people. Graff Lambert rose with kavaleriyeyu the to the town of Lyuboml on a small distance of a gun shot, but having opened that the enemy in force, stopped in 4 versts, not byv to them obespokoivan. The major general Chaplits [5] on a post in Vyzhva in too time was strongly attacked by 8 battalions of the Austrian infantry and part of a cavalry; but despite effort of the enemy, this post with loss, big for it, it was withheld, and 34 persons are taken prisoner by us. From our party it is killed: Subaltern officers 3, Corporal 1, privates 29; it is wounded: Shtab-Ofitserov 2, Subaltern officers 2, Corporals 5 and privates 135.

Through taken prisoner I inquired that the Prince Schwarzenberg [6] with in every way is in Shatska and has to act on Kovel, and the French General Rainier [7] having attached to myself confederates Polish, from Lyuboml to our left flank. The next day, i.e. the 14th [August] the enemy in all points more us did not disturb. Without having intention to enter with it decisive battle, but only whenever possible to keep aspiration it especially to win time to rapprochement of 1 column of the Moldavian army to Dubno, I the 15th [August] undertook march to Lutsk, having given to all groups holding the advanced posts, the following direction: The major general Prince Khovansky [8] from Ratno had to join the 2nd case consisting between Dathina and Nesukhoizha. This case 14 of date [August] came to Kovl, ostavya small group under team of the Major general Benardos, [9] for cover of march of the Major general Chaplits from Vyzhva to Kovl who made then a rear guard of army; and the Major general Benardos went from Nesukhoizha through Milanovichi on Splittings for connection and a reinforcement of the Major general Melissino, [10] going from Lyubashev to Splittings where the groups and held this post. To the General Aide-de-camp Gr [af] to Lambert going through m Turisk, Kiselin and Torchin to Lutsk where having passed the river Snatch, it was ordered to hold a post at the settlement of Torgovits. To the major general Hrushchov, [11] going from the city of Vladimir two roads, one through m. Fornications and to Boreml, and another through Gorokhov and Berestechko behind the river Snatch, it is told to hold the posts, postupya in team of the General Aide-de-camp Graff Lambert. The movement of all these groups was made without distant obstacle; the enemy though pursued, but is weak.

After crossing of the river Snatch army, to me entrusted camped at the city of Lutsk, and the Major general Chaplits with group in Rozhishchakh, having under the administration and a post at Splittings. The enemy, on the received news and according to the testimony of prisoners, is about a m of Turisk and the city of Vladimir from in every way Austrian and Saxon army which more than 10.000 konfederatsionny troops joined.

[12] received the notice from 1 column of the Danube army consisting under team of the Lieutenant general Voinov that because of the continuing heavy rains within 12 days, he at a crossing through the Prut from strong spillage of waters met some difficulty; but however hopes in short time to me armiyeyu to connect to a vverenna. According to all remarks the enemy intends to affect with the connected forces the left flank of my position; but how many an opportunity will be, it I will begin to reflect all attempts, for hindrance to it through Snatch crossings. What a vsepoddanneysha I inform YOUR IMPERIAL MAJESTY on.

Producing in many places of a crossing and Snatch bridges for transition of troops for the river, the enemy izvestyas about it, rekognostsirovat the 7th this month [September] a position and my crossing at Lutsk with all kavaleriyeyu and several tools. At this case there was a small cavalry business continuing from a half of day till the evening, the taken several people prisoner declared that commanders of their troops the Prince Schwarzenberg [3] and the General Rainier [4] personally thus were.
