Memorable places in Kobrin

In the middle of the XVI century the Venetian masters invited by Bona Sfortsey constructed meliorative system in the Kobrin starostvo. The material monument of this system - the channel Bona intended for drainage of the large massif of bogs - the most ancient hydromeliorative object of Belarus, remained up to now. Construction of the channel marked the official beginning of meliorative works not only in the territory of Kobrin district and the Brest region, but also in general in the territory of Belarus. From here they in the next years and centuries extended in breadth and deep into, keeping in themselves many interesting pages.

Now the channel of the Check represents a waterway of 31 kilometers which route passes across the territory of Kobrin and Maloritsky districts, serves as a water intake for 7864 hectares of the drained lands, Pavlopol of Maloritsky district originates at and Mukhavets falls into the river. The first practical steps on construction of this channel were taken only in 1755. Under the decree of the Polish government at the king Stanislav Augustus Ponyatovskom the connecting channel between Pina and Mukhavts was dug (Pererub - Benefit). In 1783 works on construction of the channel were suspended. They renewed several times through wide intervals of time. It was in 1775 willows 1837. The main amount of works was executed in 1846 - 1848. Construction of the channel was carried out in a heavy environment across strongly boggy, zakustarenny and zalesenny territory. All types of works were carried out manually. The main frame of labor was made by serfs. The channel was called Royal in honor of Stanislav Augustus Ponyatovsky, the last king of Poland, the patron and the organizer of his construction.

In 1837-1848 on the channel hydraulic engineering constructions were under construction and three water bringing channels, among them Orekhovsky in the territory of Kobrin district were built. During finding of Kobrin district as a part of the Polesia voivodeship of Poland (1921-1939) meliorative works were conducted in an upper course of river Mukhavets, and also in reservoirs of channels of the Bond and Kobrin. For works on the channel of the Check in 1936 the public meliorative enterprise was formed. Here work of prisoners found application.

The known Western expedition of the Russian general I. I Zhilinsky of land reclamation of Kobrin district paid the same attention, as well as in general to Polesia. In the short description of works of this expedition it is told: "Bogs Kobrin located in Mukhavts river basin, in a triangle, Habovichi, Dvorishcha (No. 49 fig.) of 16 thousand dessiatinas, with the general bias to the northwest, it is supposed to drain by means of two separate systems of channels (I, II) and (IV, V, VI, VII), directing to water directly to the river Mukhavets, and also by means of the third system (VIII) bringing water into the Dnieper and Bugsky canal at Orekhovsky's falling into it of a water supply system".

And still: "In the basin of the river of Trostyanitsa and the Orekhovsky water supply system the radical channel by an extent 33 versts 338 sazh is laid on extensive water separate bogs., from 2,28 to 3,20 sazhen wide, and in 1893 Trostyanits's river was cleared away so to provide the admission of the waters which are carried out by channel which was made in temporary sizes depending on the money provided for this subject. In 1895 owners of adjacent bogs cleared away old ditches and are let in the Trostyanitsky canal owing to what the water horizon so in it rose that in 1897 the part of water from very flat water separate Divinsky bogs had to be directed to the East to the Orekhovsky water supply system, instead of the initial western direction to Trostyanits's river...

In 1896 on bogs of a manor of Gaykovk side channels by an extent 1 verst 343 sazhens, with an average width of 1,50 sazhens are laid".
