About Kobrin

Matrosov Street is called in honor of the Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Matrosov. 

Sailors Alexander Matveevich is a shooter of the 2nd battalion of the 91st separate shooting crew (the 22nd army, the Kalinin front) the private. Was born on February 5, 1924 in the city of Ekaterinoslav (nowadays Dnipropetrovsk). Russian. Member of All-Union Leninist Young Communist League. Early lost parents. 5 years it was brought up in Ivanovskoye orphanage (Ulyanovsk region). Then it was brought up in the Ufa children's labor colony. Upon termination of 7 classes remained to work in a colony as the assistant teacher. In RKKA since September, 1942. In October, 1942 came to Krasnokholmsky infantry school, but soon the most part of cadets was directed to the Kalinin front.

In field army since November, 1942. Served in structure of the 2nd battalion of the 91st separate shooting crew. Some time the crew was in a reserve. Then she was transferred under Pskov to the region of Big Lomovaty pine forest. Directly from march the crew engaged.

On February 27, 1943 the 2nd battalion received a task to attack a strong point near the village of Chernushka (Loknyansky district of the Pskov region). As soon as our soldiers passed the wood and came to an edge, they got under strong machine-gun fire of the opponent - three enemy machine guns in earth-and-timber emplacements covered approaches to the village. One machine gun was suppressed by assault group of submachine gunners and broneboyshchik. The second earth-and-timber emplacement was destroyed by other group of broneboyshchik. But the machine gun from the third earth-and-timber emplacement continued to fire at all hollow before the village. Attempts to make him silent were not crowned with success. Then towards the earth-and-timber emplacement the private Matrosov A.M spread. He approached an embrasure from the flank and threw two grenades. The machine gun became silent. But as soon as fighters went in to the attack, the machine gun recovered again. Then Matrosov rose, breakthrough rushed to the earth-and-timber emplacement and the body closed an embrasure. The price of the life it promoted performance of a fighting task by division.

In several days the name of Matrosov became known to all country. Matrosov's feat was used by the journalist who was incidentally at part for patriotic article. At the same time the commander of a regiment learned about a feat from newspapers. And date of death of the hero postponed to February 23, having dated a feat for day of the Soviet Army. In spite of the fact that Sailors was not the first who made the similar act of self-sacrifice, his name was used for glorification of heroism of the Soviet soldiers. Subsequently over 300 people made the same feat, but it already widely was not lit. Its feat became a symbol of courage and military valor, fearlessness and love for the country.

The rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union to Alexander Matveevich Matrosov is posthumously given on June 19, 1943.

It is buried in the city Velikiye Luki. On September 8, 1943 the name of Matrosov was appropriated by the order of the People's Commissar of Defence of the USSR to the 254th Guards shooting regiment, it is forever enlisted (one of the first in the Soviet Army) in lists of the 1st company of this part. Monuments to the Hero are established in Ufa, Velikiye Luki, Ulyanovsk, etc. His name was born the museum of Komsomol glory of the city by Velikiye Luki, streets, schools, pioneer teams, motor ships, collective farms and state farms.
