About Kobrin

Pervomayskaya Street

The street received the name in honor of a holiday on May 1 – the International day of solidarity of workers.

On May 1, 1886 the American workers organized a strike, having made the demand of the 8-hour working day. The strike and the accompanying demonstration ended with bloody clash with the police. In July, 1889 the Parisian congress of the II International in memory of speech of workers of Chicago made the decision on carrying out on May 1 annual demonstrations. For the first time the International Workers' Day was celebrated in 1890 in Austro-Hungary, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Italy, the USA, Norway, France, Sweden and some other countries. Long time the May Day was a symbol of revolution, uncompromising class struggle. Today this holiday is celebrated in 142 countries and territories of the world on May 1 or on the first Monday of May. In some countries the Labor Day is celebrated in other time - the USA and Japan treat them, for example. More than in 80 states (including India) the Labor Day is not celebrated.
