Symbol of twin-cities

On July 18, 2015 – day which has to become history of the city of Kobrin forever. This day on our Arbat (a pedestrian street of Suvorov) the ceremonial opening of a symbol of twin-cities took place. First "twin-cities" appeared in 1944. The British Coventry and the Soviet Stalingrad – the cities almost completely destroyed during World War II became them. Residents of Coventry prepared for not broken residents of Stalingrad a cloth with the embroidered names of 830 women of the city and words: "The small help, than a big regret is better". It is a cloth a symbol of unity and friendship of residents of the cities and together with the raised money it was transferred to the USSR. Today this well-known cloth is stored in the museum panorama "Battle of Stalingrad". In 2008 residents of Volgograd made the reciprocal course: created "A Stalingrad cloth" and transferred it to residents of Coventry in honor of the 65 anniversary of the twinning relations between the cities.

Nowadays the twin-cities (which are made related the cities) – the cities between which continuous friendly communications for mutual acquaintance with life, history and culture are established. The cities exchange delegations, art and sports collectives, exhibitions, literature, movies, photographic materials about life of the cities and information on experience of maintaining municipal economy, establish close economic relations. In 1957 the World Federation of the Made Related Cities (WFMRC) is created.

The movement of twin-cities which arose during World War II came to our Belarus in 1957 when the cooperation agreement was signed by Minsk and the English Nottingham. Our Kobrin district supports twinning communications with 11 cities from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, Bulgaria, Switzerland and Germany. These cities: Belsk-Podlyassky (Poland), Vratsa (Bulgaria), Glarus (Switzerland), Kanev (Ukraine), Kakhul (Moldova), Kivertsa (Ukraine), Kovelsky district (Ukraine), Livny (Russia), Mendzhizhets-Podlyassky (Poland), Tikhoretsk (Russia), Ultsen (Germany). Delegations of many twin-cities arrived to our ancient and such young city of Kobrin. They took part in opening of a stele of twin-cities, and also congratulated residents on a holiday. To the stele established on a pedestrian street of Suvorov, carved plates on which the coats of arms and names of settlements in the Russian and English languages, and also distance to them are specified are attached. Each of twin-cities of the city of Kobrin got a symbolical piece of solemnly cut ribbon which they will protect as a symbol of love not only to our city, but also to all Republic of Belarus. And the kobrinchena will hope that the number of plates will constantly increase, and the stele will become higher and higher.
