The gooseberry is ordinary

Gooseberry - a bush of family kamnelomkovy with the escapes covered with thorns, small 3-5-bladed leaves and small greenish (or reddish) flowers. Fruits - berries of various size, a form, coloring and taste, with a large number of seeds. Blossoms in May, fruits ripen in July - the beginning of August. The gooseberry is widespread in Western Europe. But in our country the culture of this berry plant gained development earlier and has centuries-old history.



In monastic gardens it was parted in the 11th century, and in the 15th century grown up in palace gardens of Moscow. However in those days cultivated small-fruited grades which in the 19th century began to replace large-fruited. In Belarusiya now the gooseberry meets under natural conditions in all territory. It is cultivated in the central regions of Russia, in Ukraine, Belarus and in Baltic. Sometimes use decorative qualities of this bush for landings in gardens and along fences.

They contain about 13,5% of sugar, more than 2% of organic acids, mineral salts (especially there is a lot of copper), pectins, tannins, etc. In berries there are vitamins C (35 mg of %), P (0,25 mg of %), groups B and carotene. Fresh usually eat berries of sladkoplodny grades. Other grades are also suitable in food, but to their thicket use for processing.
