Currant ordinary

Currant belongs to the sort Ribes L., to family of kamnelomkovy. In a wild look about 150 types in a zone of a frigid and temperate climate of Europe, Asia and North America meet. In the USSR in a wild state 37 types and in culture 17 meet. Bushes, seldom evergreen, sometimes with prickles. Leaves are dlanevidno-bladed, gear. Flowers in brushes, are more rare in bunches. A fruit — false berry.



According to N. K. Smolyaninova, the following types and hybrids between them took part in formation of grades of red and white currant.

Currant ordinary, Western European — a bush up to 1,5 m high. Leaves are roundish. Flowers flat and blyudtsevidny, quite large. Berries roundish, small red, transparent, sourish. A kind of currant ordinary — bushes low. Leaves of three — five-bladed. Flowers blyudtsevidny, quite large.

Currant amateur — a hybrid between the first look and a version. Bush of average size. Leaves of five — seven-bladed. Flowers blyudtsevidny. Fruits are large, transparent, good taste.

Currant disputable — a hybrid between red currant and a version ordinary. Bush up to 2 m high. Leaves are three-five-bladed. Flowers shirokokolokolchaty. Brushes are long. Fruits of average size, red or white, sour.

Currant rocky — a combined look. Bush big. Leaves are leathery. Flowers kolokolchaty, reddish or purple. Berries red or purple, sour.

Currant red — a combined look. Bush up to 2 m high. Leaves are leathery. Flowers of a cup-shaped form. Fruits are red, roundish, a little flattened. The look is widespread in Europe and Asia.

Palchevsky's currant — a bush 1,5 m high. Leaves are large. Flowers small. Fruits are large, red. Meets in the Far East.

Varshevich's currant — a bush strong. Leaves of three — five-bladed. Flowers blyudtsevidny. Brushes have up to 15 flowers. Fruits are roundish, purple, sour. It is received by R. Yanchevsky from Altai. Now it is entered into culture in the European part of the USSR.

Useful properties of blackcurrant.

In Russia blackcurrant and its advantage became known in the 11th century. As the culture it for the first time began to be grown up in the Novgorod and Pskov monasteries. And only at 15-16 centuries, started talking about curative properties of blackcurrant. It is known that blackcurrant is a concentrate of vitamins which our organism needs.
