Pain is enduring

Tragedies which eyewitnesses they became not to erase, as in the computer. Endured as if hems after a surgery, only remained a sincere wound and hurts.

At Nadezhda Gatelyuk, nowadays residents of the village Benefit, Tamara Buklagi, Anna Vasilchuk and Maria Konopko living in Kobrin, war took away the childhood. The village of Lastovka was stretched near the railroad Brest − Baranovichi. To war on east front continuously there were German echelons and therefore here guerrillas acted. "We often did not spend the night houses, - remembers Nikolaevna of Gatelyuk Is reliable. − Were afraid to be the killed. One afternoon I with the elder sister during the German firing ran in the direction of the village of Ostrovo. Bullets whistled nearby, we were forced to change the direction. Ran towards the village Batchi. Our neigbour Elizabeth Zhuk ran away with two children, carried the younger girl on hands, and the senior Olga, 1940 of year of birth, ran near her. The bullet overtook Olya.

Though there was a war, but live the food and therefore in rural areas all worked is necessary. Children grazed cows, and seniors worked in the field. In the summer morning Germans surrounded the village. All were turned out, collected in the middle of the village. Began to ask about guerrillas. Women kneeled and asked Germans: "Pan-points, we work in the afternoon, at night, tired out, we sleep tight, we do not see who and where goes". Then Germans according to the list which they had, called three residents of the village and at all in the eyes killed them with shots in a nape. I remember that one of them on hands had a child whom it transferred to the wife".

Here that was remembered to Maria Georgiyevna Konopko: "During war in 1942 Germans drove all inhabitants in the center of the village. In hands they had a list. Those who were in the list were shot on the place. The father of my future husband - Konopko was killed. Our family in the list was not.

Live stood, expecting the fate. Germans asked who burned the village. Someone told that guerrillas. Having heard such answer, chasteners gave command to run up".

Tamara Pavlovna Buklaga remembers: "There was a war, but life proceeded. It was necessary to think of a daily bread - to sow, plow, to examine cattle. Cows at us are expelled from the dawn. Usually it is the senior or average children in a family. The father copes on a household, and mother makes a breakfast, puts a lunch in an oven. Any of adults changes the shepherd. It was so got, so was also that day which for many of our village became the last. I escaped. How all this was? I resort in the morning from a pasture, and our house was already surrounded by Germans. Wanted to return − do not let. Expelled all from houses, gathered. Children Germans put the first, and behind them adults. It seems to me that I and now recognized that German who with the gun in hands went before us. There was it high and thin. The person is narrow, a nose long, a high peak-cap, legs are fitted by trousers riding breeches. He rapaciously chose to himself the victim. As if practising, it shot from time to time, and residents of our village one by one fell. We were afraid to move, we waited for death. The standing our neighbor Pavel Zhuk fell nearby. Its blood was on my clothes. And suddenly Germans stopped punishment. The order was allowed to run up: indicative execution is finished. So I survived.

We in the village had Magyars. To frighten guerrillas, Magyars carried out a shelling. Guerrillas came from the village of Strigovo. After explosions always there came chasteners. My father and other men of the village, as soon as saw the guerrillas who arrived on a task seated the families on a supply and went as it is possible further.

Night overstayed, morning passed quietly, so it is possible to come back home. But happened that Germans ran unexpectedly, and then we ran away who in what, far away, to hide. It was necessary and to sit in ice water, and on ice and snow barefoot to run, creep".

Anna Dorofeevna Vasilchuk remembers events of summer of 1942 so: "Guerrillas blew up the German train. From Brest there was one more echelon which could not go further and stopped. Probably, Germans received the order to punish residents of the village near which there was an explosion. They surrounded our Lastovki. Them was much, with guns at the ready. People began to jump out from houses and to run away, to them bullets after flew. Then many were killed and wounded. I was 12 years old, I ran quickly. Having run off far, lay down that I was not visible. Lay long until Germans left. But after a while to the village three German cars drove. Magyars got out of them, they were in green uniforms, surrounded the village, began to turn out all, to beat, push those who hesitated and to drive to the center. There were already SS-men in uniforms of mouse color, on peak-caps skulls and bones were represented. Children were put ahead, my father stood behind me. Germans ordered to leave to men, according to the list which is available for them. When they left, them forced to kneel, facing us. Then it is methodical, one behind another began to be shot in a nape. Children shouted, cried. Groans, sobbings were heard, the father pressed my head that I did not look, but I saw how after a repeated shot in an emphasis bodies of my fellows villager shuddered. After their execution we were released. We were afraid of all. Politsa were especially cruel. If found the man sleeping on hay in the yard, so you are a guerrilla. Killed my cousin and his mother".
