On fronts of World War II

It is known that according to the Riga peace treaty of 1921 the western part of Belarus with the territory of 80,5 thousand sq.km and the population of 3,5 million people departed to Poland. And since 1922 on the 1939th, every year about 20 thousand Belarusians were called up for the Polish military service that made 9,5% of total of Army Polish. On the eve of Hitler's attack on Poland in March, 1939 general mobilization including persons liable for call-up of the Western Belarus was carried out.

During defensive war of 1939 Belarusians proved to be capable and courageous soldiers. So, the general Yu. Rumel ordering Lodz army noted that the 30th division of infantry which generally consisted of poleshuk bravely battled against three times superior forces of Germans on September 1-3 to the west from Warsaw. War was transient and tragic, more than 40 thousand our fellow countrymen appeared in German to captivity, and more than 50 thousand - in Soviet. Later many of them were released from the German and Soviet captivity only in order that in 1940-1941 to appear in camps of GULAG. The remains of the Polish parts, and together with them and our Belarusian fellow countrymen in September, 1939 managed to be evacuated to Romania and Hungary. Then they were transported to France where the new Polish army which courageously battled in Norway near Narvik and in France was formed. After capitulation of France in 1940 the Polish parts were partially thrown to Great Britain, partially - to North Africa. Among them there were about 10 thousand Belarusians.

Attack of Hitlerite Germany on the USSR forced Stalin to look for allies for joint fight against Germans. On July 30, 1941 in London diplomatic relations with Poland were restored. On August 14, 1941 in Moscow the military agreement according to which in the territory of the USSR the Polish army for joint with troops of the USSR and other allied powers of fight against Germany is in the shortest possible time created is signed. On August 12, 1941 the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR issued the Decree on amnesty of all Polish citizens who were in prison in the territory of the USSR as prisoners of war or for other reasons.

According to these arrangements in the territory of the USSR from among the former captured soldiers of the Polish army creation of 75-thousand army under command of the general V. Anders began. In the resolution of the State Committee of Defense it was told: "To resolve an appeal of the citizens of the Polish nationality inhabiting territories of the Western Ukraine and the Western Belarus till 1939". On this basis etnichny Belarusians, prisoners of GULAG got to Anders's army. For 1942 through Central Asia, Krasnovodsk, Iran, Iraq, Palestine and Egypt 75488 soldiers and 37765 civilians were taken out. In the 1943rd the 2nd Polish case which took part in all large operations in Italy - from fights in the south before capture of the city of Bologna in the north was created. Especially the case caused a stir in fight for the mountain monastery of Monte-Kasino which was a key position of defense of the Gustav line. Storm lasted from May 11 to May 19, 1944. Courageously Belarusians in this fight battled, at the price of the life bringing closer a victory. 254 Belarusians are based upon a military cemetery in Monte-Kasino's foot. And Rome, Bologna and liberation of Italy were farther.

Belarusians and the second front opened at disembarkation of allies in Normandy. Freed France, Belgium, Holland as a part of the tank case and parachute crew. Among honourable citizens of the Belgian town of Bredo there are also our fellow countrymen. This rank to them was given by citizens for courage and heroism. After the end of war the Polish parts were thrown to Great Britain and served till 1947. In the 1947th process of return of our fellow countrymen home began. It should be noted that many of them did not come back home, remained in the West. Affability of the Homeland was short. In 1951 all of them as soldiers of army of Anders, were repressed and sent in camp of GULAG to the Irkutsk region to Siberia. Were in the late fifties released from camps. The part of them left to Poland, to the cities of Byalo-Podlyask and Grabanov, others returned to native places. All special settlers were rehabilitated later. Modestly worked without honor, not recognized by the authorities as participants of war. It was bitter and offensive for them singed by war, which took out all weight of fights, and only in their 1995, the awarded highest war decorations of Poland, Britain, France, the USA, Italy, recognized as participants of World War II as a part of allied troops and awarded with the medal "50 years of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War".
