Took Kobrin at night

Today we publish pages from the diary of the Hero of the Soviet Union, the commander 61-y armies which took part in Kobrin's release, the colonel general Pavel Alekseevich Belov.

On July 17, 1944 it is written down: "Military events develop quickly. It is necessary to wait also for political consequences. Germans can have any more no former confidence in the result of war and the more so satellites of Hitlerite Germany do not have this confidence". In two days the commander wrote down in the diary: "Snitovo. Today we conduct a battle for Kobrin. We seek to capture the city from two parties to create to the opponent threat of an environment and if is to defend, surround it persistently. From six divisions of army four go to the north of the city and only two divisions directly cover Kobrin. I consider that it is enough these forces. Though fight for the city goes slowly, four divisions pursue the opponent farther and farther on the West. Germans mine roads again. Separate machines continually are blown up on mines even in our deep back. The message is broadcast that already seven fronts successfully come. May be what borders directly of Germany to protect at Germans there will be nobody because of shortage of forces sprayed on huge fronts..."

And here light and joyful date about which the colonel general Belov writes quite modestly:

"July 21, 1944. Took Kobrin at night. The order of the Supreme Commander-in-chief and review was not yet as other, more important progress, covered our small victory. Joyfully, with bread and salt, with flowers met the Belarusian people of the liberators - soldiers of Red Army. Peasants willingly helped our troops transport - brought ammunition and the food, evacuated wounded. Rejoicing to progress of our troops, they together with fighters grieved about fallen in fights. All residents of the village of Golovchitsa came to a funeral of the staff sergeant Morgunova who was killed in battle of a saninstruktor of the 31st art regiment.

When approaching the 29th regiment to the village of Yazvelo, guard the private Ordashevsky told the companions: "It is my native village, in it there were my family and the family". The commander of office sergeant Sakhno on a chain reported about all this to fighters. Guardsmen promptly rushed into the village and completely cleared it of Germans. The commander of a company allowed Ordashevsky to visit a family. When it appeared on a threshold of the house, the wife and children rushed to it with tears in the eyes, began to tell about crimes of fascists which killed the wife's brother, beat his mother and the father, wanted to shoot them. But approach of our troops prevented executioners to carry out the dirty deed. After Kobrin's release the division received a task - to come on the main direction, along Brestskoye Highway, between the railroad and the river Mukhavets and together with other connections of the case to seize the city and fortress Brest. On approaches the opponent prepared the defense which is very strongly strengthened, developed in the engineering relation for Brest".
