It is their city

On July 3 Republic of Belarus celebrated the 55th anniversary of release from Hitlerite occupation.

Troops of the 1, 2 and 3 Belarusian fronts and the 1st Baltic took part in fights on liberation of Belarus. It was the powerful group as a part of 20 general, 2 tank and 5 air armies. In them there were 2,4 million people, more than 36 thousand tools and mortars, 5200 tanks and SAU, 5300 warplanes.

In 12 days of continuous approach the main forces of fronts surrounded and destroyed the Vitebsk and Babruysk groups of the enemy, finished an environment of 105 thousand soldiers and officers to the east of Minsk. On July 3 Minsk was freed.

On July 19, 1944 troops of the 61st army of the 1st Belarusian front approached the city of Kobrin. The task - to take the city straight off was set for them, without having caused destructions. Soldiers of the 61st army coped with this task in spite of the fact that invaders hoped to hold on here in any way not less than a month. For this purpose on the southern suburb of the city the anti-tank ditch was dug and, besides, long-term weapon emplacements were constructed. (Two of them and today still it is possible to see: one in the downtown, about GDK and the second - in the territory of SSh N 7). But nothing helped invaders. Our troops promptly came, and as a result of persistent fights Kobrin was released on July 20, 1944.

One of participants of release Kobrina Ivan Matveevich Matveev is a commander of investigation of an artillery regiment - in the diary for July 20, 1944 made such record: "The opponent left the city at night. At 4:00 our battery left for of Kobrina. The front already left far to Brest. Shots reach us deafly. Here we drove up to the river. All bridges are blown up".

Also the city became deserted. From pre-war 13 thousand of the population of liberators met no more than 3 thousand people. All participants of release in memory had desert streets with almost completely destroyed center.
For successful military operations on release of our city the honourable name of "Kobrin" was appropriated to 12 regiments of the 1st Belarusian front.

From that memorable night there passed nearly 55 years. Very little today remained those who as a part of "Kobrin" of regiments freed our city in July, 1944. Every year in response to our congratulations comes to the museum to ten letters from relatives who with a regret report about death of dear people. And still some 15-20 years ago they, cheerful and cheerful, came to Kobrin and together with citizens celebrated the scheduled anniversary of exile of invaders from our earth. Beautiful and worthy there was a tradition allowing school students and youth to adjoin to feats of defenders of the Fatherland.

Other times for the last decade came. And life human is not eternal. Few soldiers of "Kobrin" of regiments survived. It was more pleasant to that to meet two veterans 29-go again shooting "Kobrin" of a regiment which in transit glanced in our museum on July 2.

One of them - Borodin Vladimir Prokofyevich, the chairman of the board of veterans of the 12th Guards shooting division which part also the 29th shooting regiment was. It began the fighting way in February, 1942 near Sukhinichi. Comprehended military art on roads of war, and this "study" (if it is possible to call so participation in war) was successful. With fights it passed from Moscow area to Elba. It was three times wounded. Received the first officer rank in May, 1942 for skillful command of division. Congenital mind, ability to the analysis in total with personal courage and firmness allowed it in a short space of time - from May, 1942 to April, 1945 - to pass on office steps from the junior political leader to the major. When war ended, the major Borodin V. P. had from a sort only 21 years.

After the end of war it continued to serve and when retired, soon the colonel Borodin was elected in the management of Council of veterans of the 12th Guards shooting Pinska Krasnoznamyonna of the Order of Suvorov of a division. Since then it at public work, and began to work in the Moscow committee of veterans of war 20 years ago.

Since the beginning of the 70th Vladimir Prokofyevich began to help our museum with the solution of a question of assignment for construction of the special museum building. It thanks to his continued cares at last money was allocated to us, and construction began. In 1995 the exposition on military history was open, and he could get acquainted with it just now.

Together with it other veteran of 29th shooting "Kobrin" of a regiment - Syomin Vyacheslav Pavlovich, the vice-chairman of Council of veterans of the 12th Guards shooting division which part the above-named regiment was visited the museum.

Syomin V. P. began war at 19-year age in 1942. Finished its guards the foreman, the chief of radio station of the 2nd rifle battalion. It was awarded the order Patriotic war to 1 Art., two awards of the Red Star, the medal "For Courage" and some others. After the termination of the Great Patriotic War graduated and worked in the Ministry of the radio industry of the USSR.

Vyacheslav Pavlovich with big pride tells that he was born in one village with Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov. And still he remembers mother's order that he never forgot that it was christened in the same font (church), as the glorified Marshall. Fast mind, natural humour and amazing skill to communicate allow and today to Vyacheslav Pavlovich to be soul of any company. Despite 75 years, he is still vigorous and mobile and still maintains the friendly relations with G. K. Zhukov's family. In particular, the younger daughter of the commander Maria gave to Syomin a gift for our museum: two books written by it about the father with a donative inscription and the autograph.

Borodin V.P. and Syomin V.P. brought as a gift to the museum many materials which will fill up our collections. All of them are of a great interest, and the main - without them our museum would never receive such exhibits. Especially there is a wish to tell about M. Zhukova's books and about the colourful wall calendar devoted to the 200 anniversary of the Italian and Swiss campaigns of A. V. Suvorov, published by the government of Moscow to anniversary.

They also brought the Welcome letter to kobrinchana from veterans of Moscow - participants of the Great Patriotic War which will be read on festive meeting in honor of release of Mr. Kobrin. After stay in the museum veterans left to Pinsk where they were invited to celebration of the Independence Day of Republic of Belarus. There is a wish to hope that this meeting with liberators was not the last.
