Shot from the past

In response to the publication of a cycle of the materials devoted to history of the destroyed churches of the Kobrin region I received many responses. Once I was called by the woman who told a story of the husband, the former chairman of collective farm "Friendship of the people" killed on March 17, 1960. Let's try to make the investigation of this business.

Village Wasp

This settlement for the first time is mentioned in the written sources which reached us in 1566 as the small settlement to 35 yards which was a part of Divinckoro of a voytovstvo of the Polesia volost. The next mention is connected with 1795 when there was the third section of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth after which the Wasp appeared as a part of the Russian Empire.

In 1795 the empress Ekaterina ІІ gives these lands to descendants of the Russian count, the general field marshal Pyotr Rumyantsev-Zadunaysky. However after finding of these lands on March 17, 1797, any of new owners so there also did not appear. And soon new owners sold these possession. Their most part with 911 serfs was acquired in 1816 by the leader of the Brest nobility Pavel Yagmin (1747-1808).

His grandnephew Felix Yagmin (Pavel had no children) will become in ranks of insurgents of Ramuald Traugut and in 30 years will lay down life for freedom of the Fatherland. In 1890 in the Wasp there were 65 yards. Peasants owned 1332,5 tithes of the earth. (1932 hectares) that made about 29 hectares on economy. "The landowner Leopold Gokh has 449 tithes of the earth".

World War I practically did not affect this small village. And here World War II covered the Wasp with a black wing. Did not return from the front, more than fifty its inhabitants became the victims of war. But years went... Time tightened and healed wounds. And everything was it seems good, but was to peasants difficult: hard work, taxes, crop failures. There were cases when for failure to pay to the state of taxes of the power took away the last cow from the yard.

Since 1949 the new wave of collectivization which affected, this time, and Kobrin district began. In 1950 in the Wasp the collective farm "Soviet Belarus" is formed. Voluntarily it was entered by 60% of the country yards. Villagers in the majority accepted the new power. Gratuitously gave the earth, cattle, stock, seeds, part of structures to collective farm. But went to church still regularly. And at this time in the Wasp the school-semiletka began to work, constructed mail, shop, a first-aid post and many other, necessary in peaceful life.

Lyudmila Mikhaelovna Setkova (Drugak)

This woman was born in 1935 in the village Prilutchina of Pruzhansky district in a country family. In war it was deserted, and little Luda was brought up by the father's sisters. To Semiletk the girl finished in the neighboring village of Gorodechno that in 7 kilometers from Prilutchina, and a ten-year school - already in Pruzhanakh. After leaving school Luda came to the Brest teacher's college, on philological faculty. Once on vacation she went to visit to the sister Nina who worked as the teacher of initial classes in the village the Wasp.

There the girl also met the future husband - Vasily Setkov, the young, unmarried chairman of collective farm. They got married in 1957, just in the first day of new year. And summer of 1958 Lyudmila Drugak gained the diploma of the teacher and moved to the husband to the Wasp. In September, 1958 in Setkov' family the son Igor was born.

Vasily Nikolaevich Setkov

Future chairman of "Friendship of the people" was born in 1928 in the village of Krutikh of the Novosibirsk region, in a country family. In the same place ended a semiletka and began to work on economy. In 18 years it was called up for military service. It was heavy post-war 1946, and it was necessary to serve it in Leningrad.

After demobilization with the best army friend by the name of Kochurko who was a sort from Kobrin district Vasily Setkov arrived to Belarus, to Divinsky district (then this territorial unit so was called). Both got a job in Divin.

Some time Vasily Setkov worked as the director of Divinsky recreation center. Then offered it a position of the instructor of the Divinsky district committee of party. At the same time he studied at Divinskaya evening school and often went to collective farms to hold meetings. On one of them he was elected the chairman of collective farm "Friendship" in the village the Wasp. It was in 1952.

In 1953 the collective farm which was already carrying the name "Friendship of the People" by that moment bought the truck - GAZ-51. First the earth was plowed horses, cows were milked manually. From 60 yards the Wasp to collective-farm work daily sat down came to 200 workers. The people, in the majority already got used to collective-farm life. Soon here the power-saw bench earned, constructed club and a first-aid post, and resettlement of people soon began with farms to the village.

The house built to itself and the chairman. And better to understand questions of maintaining a collective farm, Setkov arrived on a correspondence department of Goretsky agricultural academy. In the summer of 1956 Vasily got acquainted with the future wife.

Shot in night

The tragedy happened late rainy evening when in club there was the next meeting. Buried the chairman V. N. Setkov with honors on a cemetery in Malorita because on August 8, 1959 Divinsky district as an independent administrative unit was upraznen and the Wasp up to December 25, 1962 was in structure of Maloritsky district.

Investigators conducted the whole month interrogations in the village. The murderer was found. Alexander Kovalevich, the local was him, on age is slightly younger than the chairman. He was married, had the juvenile daughter. It was painful to Lyudmila Mikhaylovna to remain in the village. The district executive committee met requirements of her: the house was transported in Kobrin and as could, helped money. Lyudmila Mikhaelovna got a job to work at the new place in school, and the son Igor went to kindergarten.

Price of a collective farm

There passed 55 years after the tragedy. In the book "Memory. Kobrin district" it is told that upon murder "the local tipper-of of an act of terrorism was detained, it is condemned and punished for deeds". However we managed to establish other circumstances of this business.

In 1960 memory of war was still live. And collectivization set many peasants thinking on essence of the Soviet power. Besides this region only in September, 1939 became Soviet. And that not on long. The former owners well remembered the rich allotments, the wood, learned in collective-farm herd of the cows and horses.

According to stories of locals, "the tipper-of Alexander Kovalevich, was well-known in the village. In a family of his father was three children, the family by own efforts built the new house. The people say that they privorovyvat building materials, and allegedly Sena to themselves more norms in the wood mowed. But so did many. In fact, Kovalevichi were good owners and worked for themselves. The management and an asset of collective farm showed discontent with this family. Quite often business came to court.

At the same time there was a settlement from farms. Not all wanted to move to the village. To disobedient farmers the collective-farm asset "cut off" the earth. That earth for which osovsky peasants "after the Polish hour" earned money in Argentina, the Baltic States, the USA. The collective farm balanced all. And owners and idlers. Meanwhile the party put all new and new most important tasks. The cattle problem when the collective farm took away "the excess heads" from owners became a last straw, in a bowl of human patience, and handed over to the state on meat. For kopeks.

On all probability, the offended owners decided to revenge the chairman. Moreover and to the visitor. There was a murder. As a result, not only Lyudmila Drugak, but also the spouse of the caught murderer became the widow. The Supreme Court of BSSR sentenced Alexander Kovalevich to a capital punishment – execution. The shot a ricochet walked on all members of collective farm "Friendship of the people" where for the time being everyone lived either under suspicion, or in fear.

"Mine the husband was a beautiful family man and the father. He died in the blossoming of years. All this with unceasing pain lives in my heart all these years", - Lidiya Mikhaelovna Setkova writes to the conclusion. Unfortunately, the ideology spoiled life of many inhabitants of that time of our republic. After the end of World War II someone was unreasonably accused "of stay in temporarily occupied territory", others, and it is worse than that, arrested for complicity, and just took away terribly earned from the third and driven to collective farm. As a result, having seeded these contradictions, Bolsheviks managed to separate people and the most important, to disaccustom them to be owners on the earth.
