Lived in the village of Recyca

In the sad list of the burned villages, like Khatyn, there is our village of Recyca. On September 5, 1942 the German retaliatory team burned in it 45 yards, shot or burned 64 its inhabitants. Valentina Dmitriyevna Chernik and Vera Ivanovna Kivako during war lived in the village of Recyca and remember how it occurred.

"The village of Recyca generally consisted of farms. The house of my father, - Valentina Dmitriyevna remembers, - was at the wood on the edge of the village. The center of the village was populated more densely. In the summer of 1942 in the morning neighbors came running to us and reported that to the village there arrived Germans. All thought that they will take away youth to Germany. In our family of children there was much, elder sisters quickly gathered and went to the wood. Behind our house, already in the wood there was an estate of the forester. To me the daughter of the forester Len came and suggested to descend to the village, to look at Germans. I agreed, and we went to the center of the village, came to acquaintances. To me it was restless, I began to speak Len that we went home, but that refused. Told that wants to look how there will leave Germans.

Then I is reserved, kitchen gardens, began to leave to approach the house on the other hand. The wood had someone's house, it was already surrounded by Germans. Having seen me, they latches locks, I heard them: "Halt!" and very much ran home. Ran up, I hide, I look out whether our house has Germans. I see only the father with the younger sister on hands waiting for my return. We left at once. Hid among a bog, in the loznyak surrounded with an almost impassable bog till the evening. I do not remember either shots, or a smoke, or shouts from the burned village, everything was as in fog. Decided to come back. Came to the road, and on it from the village the woman goes. It was the forester's wife. Hands strong embraced her the dead burned Lena, my girlfriend who did not want to leave the village in the morning. My father and the forester, all who remained to live went to bury remains of the burned people. We understood that we will be killed too and the house will be burned. The father laid belongings, put on the cart of younger children, and we went to Podlesye, for Bukhovichami. There lived our relatives, they let us in a hut".

Vera Ivanovna Kivako in August, 1942 was 12 years old. Now she lives in the village of Strigovo, memoirs are given it hardly.

"It occurred in the early September morning 1942. Our house stood at the roadside. On the contrary the German car stopped. The German went out of the car and began to talk to the father who harnessed a horse, being going to go in the field to plow. The German exactingly waved a hand that the father left. For the father the grandmother and the father's brother left. I got out because of a barrel with water behind which hid, having seen the car, and ran to neighbors. Those already hurried in the wood. I returned that with mother too to leave. Younger still slept, we thought that Germans arrived behind youth, and mother remained. I was 12 years old, but I was fat, looked is more senior than the years and was afraid, as I will be taken away. I told mother that I all the same will run and I will hide. During the haymaking at the wood the box where we usually also hid was made. But this time I caught up with neighbors and went with them on distant the farm. On the farm we sat till a lunch, from the village nothing was heard. The neighbor suggested to bring me to the road that I ran home and found out about everything. I refused. His senior daughter Lena and Valya from the farm ran to the village. Did not pass also hour as from the village automatic turns began to reach. The scared Valya came running and told that they with Lena approached the village and saw nine German cars.

Having broken into three groups, chasteners surrounded the village. Valya wanted to come back, but Lena remained to look, what will be farther. Valya escaped. As then it became clear, at a round-up Germans noticed Lena and killed. Over the village we saw clubs of a black smoke and understood that it our houses burn. By the evening the smoke dissipated, and we ventured to go to the village. When approached, saw a terrible picture: houses burned down, the fetid smell reached. Was nobody anywhere. The sun sat down, cows went home. They were driven by my brother. Behind it my father, his brother and the grandmother went on a supply. Darkened, we tired out cows in zagorod. In the morning all learned. In the evening politsa stopped by in the village of Plashchina, and one of them secretly told the familiar woman that burned the village of Recyca, and people - in a shed, extreme from the wood. At that woman in Recyca there lived the father and brothers. At dawn she came running to remains of the burned people and wailed over them. All who survived approached a shed and saw what remained from the burned-down people. My father rushed to a shed, stepped a leg into ashes, and from there scarlet blood scattered a stream. The father somehow strange receded back and fainted. Having seen it, I terribly cried and rushed to it. He opened eyes, embraced me, and from a breast heavy groan escaped. Sobbings shook it. People brought from farms of a shovel, began to dig one on all a mass grave. Nobody knew that at this time chasteners create the dirty deed again – a plait and kill residents of the village of Kamenka.
