Kobrin military and historical museum of A. V. Suvorov

In Republic of Belarus there are a lot of museums, but one of them is allocated especially - it is the museum in the city of Kobrin called in honor of the great Russian commander Suvorov.

The genius of Suvorov of a military leader it is possible to put briefly following into words: "Did not lose any battle, and all of them were won at a superiority in strength of the enemy". The ingenious commander carried out more than 60 battles and won all!

In 1795 the empress Catherine II sent to the Senate the decree according to which Alexander Suvorov for a faithful service was granted a manor the Kobrin key. The famous commander also lived in this manor in 1797 and 1800.

According to the resolution of KP(b)B Central Committee Bureau of June 18, 1946 for No. 329, the Brest regional executive committee the decision of July 6, 1946 decided: "In commemoration of memory of the great Russian commander Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov to organize the Kobrin military and historical museum of Suvorov in the house where Suvorov lived in the city of Kobrin". On August 4 the same year Alexey Mikhaylovich Martynov was appointed the director of the nonexistent museum, and already on May 1, 1948 the museum accepted the first visitors.

In Kobrin three monuments to Suvorov – one to the utmost and two busts. The first bust from bronze of work of the sculptor P. Kyuferle is established in 1949 before an entrance to the museum.

The second bust (the sculptor – N. I. Rukavishnikov) is at the end of the avenue in park which is one of the best parks of Belarus and bears a name of Suvorov. It is established in 1950 on that place where originally there was Suvorov's house. Nearby there is a pond in which the commander once liked to bathe. On a stone at an entrance to park the inscription was once looked through: "On this stone the commander Suvorov liked to have a rest". However in days of the Polish board she was carefully hit.

The monument to Suvorov to the utmost executed by the sculptor V. S. Chebotaryov is established in 1964 on a fork of streets Soviet and Pushkina.

The well-known ancient Peter and Paul church which the commander visited almost daily also is connected with a name of Suvorov. He trod to it a footpath through the next kitchen gardens. Often he climbed up a belltower when it was necessary to call, or sang on a choir in chorus. Suvorov possessed a mighty commander bass that got to it respect of choristers and parishioners. Still with great love and respect store a relic in church – Suvorov's psalter with an inscription: "On this psaltira Suvorov sang and read". Since then and till this hour the Sacred and Peter and Paul church has the second informal, national name – Suvorov. The church was transferred to other part of the city for a long time.



On September 3, 1794 fight between Suvorov's troops and an advance party of insurgents of the general Serakovsky at Divine's village located in 30 km to the south of Kobrin took place. After fight in a small wooden churchlet Paraskev Fridays in Divine Suvorov were defended by thanksgiving, and then moved further. In 3 km from the village the group stopped for rest, and Suvorov lay down to take a nap under a branchy oak. The tree it and costs today on the suburb of the road, and a row on an obelisk fixed the memorial board reminding of this episode.

The first exposition of the museum had only three sections: "Our great ancestors", "A.V. Suvorov", "Patriotic war of 1812".

Since November 15, 1980, to the 250 anniversary since the birth of A. V. Suvorov, the exposition in the Suvorov house is devoted only to life and activity of the great commander.

In 1990 construction of the new building of the museum was finished.



In it registration of the second part of an exposition which basis was formed by city history in the context of military history IX-XX of Belarus of centuries began though the narration begins since settling of the territory of Belarus by the person and it is based in this section on archaeological material.

Today the Kobrin military and historical museum is presented by two expositions, one of which is placed in the Suvorov house, and the second – in the new building of the museum.

The exposition "Seven centuries of Kobrin" which occupies 15 halls works in the new building. It is presented by the original materials narrating about centuries-old history of Kobrin: emergence and first annalistic mention; periods of blossoming of the city and its decline; time of peaceful life and weight of military tests. Continuation of an exposition is the open area of military equipment on which the artillery piece and samples of armored machinery of the Soviet Army are presented.

In the museum also various thematic exhibitions work. Now the original exhibition "Toy and Time" works.

The exposition in the Suvorov house is devoted directly to Suvorov – the whole 8 halls. Here it is possible to learn about its family tree, a childhood, education, education, military service. Persons interested can see the real drum of the Semyonovsky regiment in which there began service Suvorov, and also photocopies of the well-known drawings "Suvorov — the Corporal of the Semyonovsky Regiment Cleans the Gun" of N.S.Samokish and "The empress Elizabeth Petrovna awards Suvorov who is on guard duty" V.F.Timma. The exposition acquaints with an era in which there lived the commander. She tells about the fighting activity which began with Seven years' war. The trophy of this war – a saber with which Frederick II awarded the general von Zitten is of special interest. The most part of an exposition is devoted to the Russian-Turkish war, the Italian and Swiss campaigns. The part of an exposition devoted to Suvorov's stay in the territory of Belarus and Kobrin district is of special interest. The books devoted to Suvorov, including V. Alekseev's book "Suvorov poet" and "A. V. Suvorov's Biography, written in 1786", from Suvorov "Sciences to win against a model of the developed book with the most characteristic excerpts" – all this can be seen in the museum which halls kept spirit of Suvorov time.

Unfortunately (and fortunately at the same time) in the Suvorov house repair and restoration works are now carried out, and for visitors it is still closed. Will hope that shortly he will open the doors for visitors again and will please them with the exhibits.

Today this museum with such nice history, is one of the best museums of Republic of Belarus. Even in the countries, close to us, you will not always see similar: unique authentic relics, banners, collections of the weapon, ammunition and equipment, documents and exhibits …

Exactly at midday on May 9, 2014 in Moscow the vote results on a rank of the best commander of Russia of all times were summed up. It called Alexander Suvorov for whom on the Internet more than half a million people gave the votes. On the second place Georgy Zhukov, on the third – Alexander Nevsky. To us, kobrinchana, it is especially pleasant. Though the name of the great commander and is ambiguous in our history, but we remember it and we honor. And the great commander is forever entered in nice history of our city.

Feel a spirit of the age – visit the Kobrin military and historical museum of A. V. Suvorov, and you receive the mass of long unforgettable pleasant impressions.

Somehow to compensate yet not working part of an exposition, we offer materials which can be used for carrying out game "That? Where? When?". Practically all these questions in various time were played in the school and adult intellectual tournaments held by the author of the presented material in the city of Kobrin. Many of them are made by the author.
